What I was implying was mainly that high-income countries, the governments that represent them (and yes, often individuals) want it to end only for themselves. Because we can’t be bothered to ensure that an end to the pandemic is actually sustainable, other countries are left neglected as higher income nations open up again. The Delta variant is a good example of the consequences of uneven and inequitable response. Our negligence will inevitably prolong the pandemic for all of us, while the effects continue to be borne disproportionately by countries lacking resources.
