Transportation will likely be the hardest obstacle to greener travel. I don't generally take short-range flights anyway, but living in Europe I'm constantly shocked by how inexpensive flight tickets are compared to other options. A last minute flight from Vienna to Berlin, for example, costs around 67 Euros, while a train ticket is more than double that amount. Considering that the flight takes only about an hour and a half, while the train trip is 12 hours, it's not exactly surprising that most people opt for the first option.
Even with the signs of climate catastrophe now staring us in the face, I think it will take a lot to convince people of the importance of choosing greener transportation over convenience.
