I too was disheartened to see bold Jesus flags paraded around in the live coverage of the storming of the Capitol. I had not expected it, but just like you, I am not entirely surprised. I know plenty of often well-meaning Evangelicals who voted for Trump simply because he is Republican and for Andrew Sheer simply because he is conservative, entrenched in the idea that the political right is somehow a better representation of Christian values, while forgetting so much of what Jesus taught concerning empathy and meeting people where they are despite our differences.

"One of the many things our country needs right now is a Church that humbly serves and struggles toward peace" - this is such a beautiful and important reminder.

It made me think of James 3:17-18: "But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favouritism and is always sincere. And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness."

Thank you for sharing this.
