I love that the stories of each destination are so intertwined with the culture and the people who live in the places you listed. I couldn't agree more that traveling to remote locations, that truly are off the beaten path, brings an entirely different atmosphere to the experience of travel.

I've certainly visited my fair share of major cities, but my favourite places - and the ones that are most memorable - are also not what you would find on a suggested travel lists: Mbale, Uganda and Mayrhofen, Austria.
